Maintenance Person – Damfield Gardens

Salary: £13.88 p/hr (time ¼ overtime, double time Bank Holidays)

Hours: 9 - 4.30pm (Predominantly, Monday to Friday,  but will be required to work outside of these hours at times for emergencies)

REPORTS TO – HOME MANAGER

Job purpose – To provide a comprehensive maintenance service in all areas of the Care Home, both interior and exterior. Communicating and interacting with all employees and residents ensuring that the Care Home is kept in good condition.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To carry out repairs and maintenance tasks within the individual’s capability in all areas of the home as requested by employees and the Home Manager, complying with the Care Home’s policies and procedures manual.

2. To understand and meet statutory and legal requirements such as Food Safety, Health and Safety, COSHH, Fire Safety, to maintain a safe environment throughout the care home.

3. To carry out specific maintenance and regular safety checks (including fire) as identified in the maintenance check list, keeping accurate, up to date records of the checks.  Reporting any deficiencies to the Home Manager and following these up promptly.

4. To respect residents at all times, especially their individual right to privacy, dignity and choice, incorporating residents’ needs and requirements into your work routine so that the Care Home is pleasant to both live and work.

5. To liaise with the Home Manager ensuring the care home is maintained in good decorative order, the environment is comfortable, friendly and has a ‘homely’ feel for the residents.

6. To liaise with external contractors entering the home when carrying out authorised work to ensure that all requirements relating to Health and Safety and the Health & Social Care Act legislation are fully met.

7. To maintain the grounds and garden areas, keeping them in a neat and tidy condition.

8. be approachable and interactive with colleagues, contributing to team meetings and helping team members as appropriate. Ensure that Care Home is a friendly and supportive caring environment.

This is a team role, with responsibility for maintain the home to a high standard, therefore communication and team work are mutually important.  Prioritising your workload, getting tasks done and pride in your work is essential.

Job context

Although the actual job is fundamentally an individual role, you are an essential member of the Care Home team and will be interacting and communicating on a regular basis with all the colleagues, residents along with outside contractors.

Key challenges

You are likely to be given various jobs all over the home by different colleagues and residents, therefore managing your own time and prioritising your workload, without being supervised, is essential.  To ensure Ideal Care Homes high standards are maintained and that each team member treats residents in the way that they would expect to be treated themselves.

Key measures

Mandatory training is up to date

Supervision meeting with Line Manager every 2 months

Results and feedback from Home inspections and audit reports (internal and external).

Person specification

Experience in DIY, Gardening and Basic Health and Safety knowledge

Basic numeric and good record keeping skills

Good communication / Approachable and friendly, able to work in a team
