Job purpose
As an Activity Assistant you will enhance the wellbeing of our residents through providing a stimulating range of activities. This ensures our homes are happy, interesting places to be. Your role will involve getting to know our residents so that you can assist in planning, organising and co-ordinating activities to suit our residents’ individual needs.. This will include everything from individual hobbies through to organised group events.
Key Responsibilities
- To participate in enhancing the intellectual and social wellbeing of the residents to provide as far as possible, a happy and stimulating experience.
- Help residents to socialise within the care home.
- Encourage staff members, relatives and friends to participate in the home’s activities.
- To assist in planning weekly/monthly activity rota’s in conjunction with the residents wishes and encourage residents to participate in group activities.
- To assist in planning the homes special events such as Summer fetes, coffee mornings etc.
- To help organise and attend any home events such as above working at times unsociably.
- Foster good community relations and assist in the organisation of fund-raising initiatives within the home.
- Be understanding and patient towards residents and their needs, and encourage, assist and support residents to participate in leisure activities as appropriate to the individual, ensuring their social and emotional needs are met. This also includes escorting residents to outside appointments and leisure outings.
- Encourage Residents to participate in discussions regarding home activity programmes and aid them in maintain pre-existing hobbies.
- To assist the Activity Co-ordinator actively marketing the home and promoting a positive profile in the community.
Record accurate details of activities, events carried out using relevant documents.

Within the home to motivate and guide the care staff in the home activity programme under the direction of the Care Home Manager.

Mandatory training is up to date
Attend evaluation meetings on activities/events.
Supervision meeting with Line Manager every month

Good numeracy and literacy skills. A warm and friendly disposition
Good communication skills, able to put others at ease.
A positive attitude to older people and a commitment to provide stimulating, quality activities and outings.
Ability to assist in organising activities, events and outings.
A strong team worker.
